Week 4 (2/27/12) Legislative Report

IMPORTANT FOR AGENTS

Agents Licensing & Renewals – Citizenship

  • SB 458 - Barry Loudermilk (R – District 52) - Legislation enacted by the Georgia legislature relating to verification of citizenship contained a provision that requires NEW agents to provide notarized proof that they are citizens of the United States, and Renewal applications for existing agents also requires proof of citizenship.
  • Under the current lawALL agents would be required to furnish the proof of citizenship EVERYtime they renew. Companies would also have to furnish proof of citizenship for each of their appointed agents each year.
  • SB 458 – contains correcting language (line 124 thru 127) that would ONLY require proof of citizenship ONE (1) time.

PIA supports this important change that will save agents and companies both money and time. SB 458 has passed out of committee.  Watch this report for up to the minute progress on SB 458. You could be called on for grassroots support.
